Relax

Relax!

The mere act of being a family can put severe stress on the mind and soul. Taking care of one another, and living peaceably can truly be a work in day to day life. It's essential for families to find relaxing things to do together.

When a family is in a rut, it can be tough to think of ways to pull together and find things that the whole family will enjoy. But pushing past and out of this rut can actually save a family that is spiraling downward.

One thing to try are trips to the beach, or parks. The great thing about this sort of relaxing trip is that there's really room for all members of the family to be themselves. Mom and Dad can unwind, and relax in the shade while the kids go and play, read, or wander around. Bring a ball or Frisbee along for playing some games.

But these trips to relaxing places or activities aren't what is really going to help in the long run. A family can only ride on a fun day for so long. Whatever you do, the real trick is to keep it casual, in regular intervals. Families under great stress need periods of rest and wind down time, free and separate from the pressures of the daily grind.

You see, some families will live in fear of finances, disagreements and fights day in and day out. They create an environment of strife and frustration. To take a daily time to disengage, and constructively clear the mind and heart, as a family, can be extremely beneficial.

Let's say, for example, the parents are just home from a hard day of work. The children are home from school, and it can be easy for everyone to unload on one another the stresses of the day. But will this help? No. This is a resounding, "No!"

This is a perfect time for unwinding as a family. Take 30 minutes or so, not less, to breathe in and break from the daily grind. You need to rest. Consider it in the same vein as a family nap time. But instead of napping, this is a period for the family to be still and disconnect from problems, fights and issues. Just a quiet time in the household, to read, close your eyes, be still inside.

Perhaps individuals could take turns bringing inspiring stories to read aloud together. Pick stories about people overcoming hardship and struggle, which will bring encouragement to the family. Another idea is to go for a walk together. Hold hands; enjoy the breeze and the sun, or the evening air and the stars. But in all of this, know, that the purpose is to remind yourself that there is a bigger world beyond your problems.

Once you get started, it can be fairly easy, and begin to be fun to find daily relaxing things to with the whole family. Take the time to connect with one another, be still and peaceful, leave problems outside the door, and fall in love once again.
