Support Groups

A chance to meet with others in a similar situation.

Our support groups are held on the first Wednesday of each month at Fast Eddy's Restaurant, Cannington. Meetings start at 7.30pm and generally run for about two hours. Anyone who is part of a step family, or facing issues relating to stepfamily life, is welcome to join us. Our support groups offer a comfortable environment for members of Step Families. You will meet people with similar issues to your own, who can offer support, advice, and a good night out!

Please email us at
supportcoordinator@stepfamilywa.com if you would like to be involved. Alternatively, call Racheal Kimber on 0417 961 652

Fast Eddy's Cannington is located at Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre.

About Our Co-Ordinator

Racheal Kimber

Racheal is a step-child, step-mother and a biological mother. Racheal and her husband of 10 years, Scott, both have children from previous relationships - Scott has two children living in New Zealand and Rachael's oldest lives with them. They also have one child together, so they are very much a blended family.

Racheal and Scott have both been active in supporting the rights of parents and understand the frustrations of stepfamily issues. They have dealt with the Family Court in Australia and overseas, and understand how hard it is to try to parent from a distance when you have little or no contact.

Racheal's current work is very demanding which makes her great at multi-tasking. Her previous employment also makes her a great people person, which was why she took up a position as support group co-ordinator for SFAWA. Racheal sees a need for support for stepfamilies in WA, and says "It can be very hard to talk about certain issues, whether it be about being in a stepfamily, court issues, CSA issues, etc, and to find people that completely understand where you are coming from".

Racheal hopes the support group will fill this gap for stepfamilies, help with the challenges they face, and looks forward to being a part of such a great organisation.
